The new program opposed German membership in any military alliance, demanded the democratization of the economic sphere and a fundamental transformation of society.

Several monarchist APE parties gained between 3 and 7 percent of the votes in the 1946-53 period. However, by 1958 another party had established itself as the most successful APE force on the right, namely, the Italian Social Movement (MSI). After the war the MSI became the party that provided a home for those people who still believed in fascism.
